Stages

This was my left leg on the right before I had surgery on Christmas Eve. As you can see it looks like an alien trying to break out from underneath my skin! For twenty years I suffered with this painful ugly mess. It has effected my life a lot but after seeing the consultant, being given hope of getting it sorted I couldn't wait to go ahead with it, painful though I knew it would be. The photo on the left is what my leg looked like after a week, after the 5 bandages were removed. I had had 12 small incisions to remove the dead veins. It does however resemble a road accident!
I was shocked when this mess was revealed. I couldn't get over the bruising either. But this is what I wanted, what I so desperately needed so I was OK with it. So it's now almost six weeks since my operation. So the next photo above in the centre is what my leg looks like now and as you can see it's loads better. It will take a couple of months yet before it's totally pain free. I still have several numb areas but I've been assured by my doctor that this is normal and will go with time. Yes It did hurt. Yes I have suffered. But YES my leg is good again. This was my Christmas present to me.

Looks like it is healing nicely. I have had numbness where I have been cut before after surguries and from accidentally cutting myself open, feeling usually comes back in time though.

Bama Trav ~ eah I've had foot surgery five times on my left foot, some thing else I inherited.. bunions! I still have numbness but due to nerve endings being severed, that was many years ago. Thanks ;)

I believe I would have claimed it happened after having an accident on my motorcycle. Then claim the motorcycle came out completely unscratched. I bet it would make a funny story that way.

Steel Horseman ~ a knw that's a very sensible suggestion, then I could've claimed 'Injuries for you' and made a packet! ( get rich quick!) a think it would've worked? Lol..

JStar ~ I have to admit I'm totally thrilled with the end result. It still aches but the pain is nothing compared to the pain I had before the op. Thank you

Secretia ~ Yes I am amazed at the out come, the surgery was well worth it, even if I did have to wait 20 years for it. The vein in the back of my left knee is still there, but the surgeon told me he'd do that one next time when the vein behind my right knee needs surgery, most likely in about 12 months time..some thing to look forward too!!

viemoira ~ I have waited so long for this... I'm over the moon with the result. Just need the vein behind both my knees doing now and I'll be truly fixed for good. :)
